About Ask Counselling
The Ask Counselling website is for students of the University of Melbourne who have questions about psychological and emotional issues. Ask Counselling can be a first step in gaining help and information.
Questions are submitted via the website. Staff of the department of Wellbeing Services of the University of Melbourne review questions regularly. If a suitable question is submitted on a topic not already addressed in an existing post, a response will be posted on the website, usually within 5 business days.
Ask Counselling is not a diagnostic or therapeutic service, and it cannot be used to replace face-to-face counselling for specific or on-going problems. You should also be aware that there are limitations on providing information via an on-line medium, for example, questions and responses may not be understood in the manner intended. For this reason responses provided on the Ask Counselling website should only be treated as a guide and of general assistance only.
Ask Counselling is not a 24 hour service, nor designed for students who are in crisis. If you need an answer immediately, please contact LifeLine on 13 11 14 or the Suicide Helpline on 1300 651 251.
