After years of tossing around plans to share more of the technical bits behind the scenes at the University Digitisation Centre of the University of Melbourne Library I’ve finally bitten the bullet and started a blog.
As a Technical Support Officer it’s my job to find ways to do stuff, making stuff possible in the first instance and then making it practical. This blog will provide in depth glimpses into what we do, how we do it and some of my experiments to simply see if something was possible.
As the year is drawing to an end you may have to wait a few weeks for my first topic so for now I’ll leave you with some examples of some stuff I’ve done.
- Using controlled reflection for lighting illuminated manuscripts
- Georeferencing historical maps
- 3D scanning using photogrammetry
- … and the list wouldn’t be complete without a nerdy experiment to automate PDF processing (creating and appending a coversheet and embedding metadata)
