Free Film Screening & Panel Discussion: The Rising Wave

Carrillo Gantner Theatre, Basement, Sidney Myer Asia Centre (bldg 158), Cnr Swanston Street and Monash Road, ParkvilleThe Rising Wave examines the significance of water in Indian culture and was shot in three Indian states. Exploring the effects of privatisation of water resources on water dependent communities in India, The Rising Wave provides a voice for these communities, with English subtitles provided. The film features renowned ecologist Vandana Shiva who provides her expert comments on the traditional use and management of water resources in India.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with the producers and Associate Professor Ramaswami Harindranath (Media and Communications), Dr Salim Lakha (Senior Lecturer in Development Studies) and Associate Professor Hector Malano (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering). We encourage you to join us for this thought-provoking presentation.

This screening of The Rising Wave, produced and directed by Shweta Kishore and Yask Desai, is organised by the Asia Institute in collaboration with the Australia India Institute.

    Film has always been a part and parcel of Indian culture since a long time. I hope “The Rising Wave “ of Shweta Kishore and Yask Desai is a good film…
