Invitation to the PEN Picnic

Dear Friends,

To kick start Semester 1 and to welcome the new intake of students to the Office of Environmental Programs the Postgraduate Environment Network (PEN) invites you to come on a picnic adventure to the Abbotsford Convent on Saturday 28th February 2009.

The meeting point for this pilgrimage will be outside the Sidney Myer Asia Centre near the University Tram Stop on Swanston Street at 11am.
It is proposed that one expedition group will make their way to the convent on bicycles while another will walk to the bus stop on Elgin Street and catch public transport. So bring your bike or some coins for a ticket.

For those of you who would like to come but cant meet at the University the address of the convent is:
Abbotsford Convent Foundation
1 Saint Heliers Street
Abbotsford VIC 3067
Melways Ref: 44 G5

The plan is for everyone to supply some food to share a picnic lunch in the gardens of the Convent. If you are unable or choose not to bring food there will be a Slow Food Farmers Market operating until 1pm and there is the sensational “Lentil as Anything” restaurant that offers an assortment of vegetarian delights for those on the tightest of budgets. So bring a plate for lunch and utensils if you need them.

After lunch a visit to the nearby Collingwood Childrens Farm or perhaps a walk/ride along the path by Birrarung (The Yarra River) could be an optional activity to explore on the day.

The point of this informal gathering is that there is no point, just an excuse to collectively communicate and participate in an adaptive exercise and see what happens

From Sydney Myer Asia Centre, you’ll be cycling with Nick or enjoying the bus ride with me. See you then!

    Cheers, Devin
