Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) Daily Reports 1941 – 1996 (trial only)

This trial has now ended. For further information please add to comments or email jenifer@unimelb.edu.au

The Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) Daily Report has been the United States’ principal record of political and historical open source intelligence for nearly 70 years. Available in a single, complete online collection, FBIS Daily Reports,1941-1996 constitutes a one-of-a-kind archive of transcripts of foreign broadcasts and news that provides fascinating insight into the second half of the 20th century.
It also covers 8 geographic regions from 1974-1996. The 1974-1996 regions are all complete. However, the 1941-1974 global file is still in development and to date, only about 50% of the total content from 1941-1974 has been uploaded. Readex expects the 1941-1974 global file to be completed by the end of this year.

I am so glad you have this database on trial and urge you to purchase access to this on an ongoing basis. I use the reports to scan through Indonesian press reporting, in particular right now between 1965-1968 to monitor the violent regime change which occurred from Sukarno to Suharto. The trial period of this database is so short, that I really urge the library to get this database on an ongoing basis, so I can explore more of this great database.
