Accepting your offer and enrolment
All students offered a place will receive an offer pack in the post with instructions on how to accept their offer and complete their online enrolment. Included in the enrolment pack will be an invitation to attend Academic Advice Day in January or February (see key dates), along with a copy of A Guide to Enrolment and Starting University, which will explain the enrolment process and outline the various information sessions available on the day.
Academic Advice Day activities:
- Course Information sessions which give an overview of course rules and structures, including pathways to majors and breadth requirements. Students will also receive information about the range of services provided by Student Centres.
- Subject and Discipline Information Sessions that are designed to showcase the range of first year level subjects available. These sessions will provide the enrolling student with an idea of what the subjects will be like, including an overview of the subject content and assessment requirements.
- Housing Information sessions with an opportunity to speak to Housing Advisers, for students who need to find accommodation before starting university.
- An appointment with a Student Adviser, available in the days following Academic Advice Day (or on the same day for those who have travelled from outside Melbourne). Student Advisers help students to choose an appropriate range of subjects based on course rules and intended study pathways, and ensure that enrolment has been completed correctly.
Academic Advice Day is designed to provide students with comprehensive course and subject information to help them make informed subject choices. Academic Advice Day is a vital part of a student’s transition to university, as research shows that students who are informed and prepared early have the best chance of successfully settling in at university. Some feedback from students about Academic Advice Day:
“Very informative and very useful. Made me feel much more comfortable about coming to uni as it answered many of my questions and was a very thorough explanation of what was to come.”
“The quality of the booklets handed out on Academic Advice Day, especially those that were relevant to my course, were fantastic. They were clear, concise and helped me realise my dream career and the areas I wanted to major in. The Student Adviser was extremely helpful in answering all my questions about uni life and even simplified uni terminology for me and helped me understand the content and structure of my course better. Attending Academic Advice Day made my transition to uni a less daunting experience.”
Can I arrange someone else to accept my offer and enrol on my behalf?
Enrolment packs contain a unique student number and other information needed to enrol. Therefore students need to arrange for a trusted person to collect their mail and contact them with these details. Enrolment is online so students can access the website and enrol from anywhere in the world. For this reason, there are no proxy enrolments: students must enrol online for themselves. Please also note the deadlines for accepting offers and enrolling in the enrolment pack.
What if I cannot attend Academic Advice Day?
If students are unable to attend Academic Advice Day, they must contact their Student Centre and arrange an alternative. Contact details of Student Centres will be provided in the enrolment pack or can be found at the Student Centres website.
