UCL moving to “open access” for all research

Interesting article in today’s FT highlights University College London who are leading the way in making all their research available for free. Paul Ayris, head of the UCL Library is interviewed, he is hoping to start by putting research done since 2001 on its open access “online repository”. Other universities such as Cardiff are hoping to follow.

It will be an interesting time to see what others do. Particularly as several newspaper publishers are going the other way and charging for content, due to the fall in revenue from advertising.
