The latest Journal Citation Reports (JCR) by Thomson Reuters again place University of Chicago Press journals at the top of their fields. Fourteen of the thirty-three Press journals rated in the JCR have impact factors in the top ten of their respective categories, with eight journals ranking in the top five.
Calculated each year, JCR impact factors measure how often articles in a given journal are cited in other peer reviewed publications.
Two publications — The American Historical Review and the Journal of Labor Economics — ranked first in their respective categories of “History” and “Industrial Relations & Labor.” JOLE also increased its ranking to thirteenth among the more than two hundred journals in the “Economics” category.
The Quarterly Review of Biology raised its ranking from tenth to fourth among Biology journals, while Clinical Infectious Diseases and The Journal of Infectious Diseases ranked second and fourth in “Infectious Diseases.” Other journals in the top five of their respective categories were American Journal of Sociology (second in “Sociology”), The Journal of Geology (third in “Geology”), Current Anthropology (fifth in “Anthropology”), Journal of British Studies (fifth in “History”) and Journal of Political Economy (fifth in “Economics”).
Also making substantial gains in rank were Physiological and Biochemical Zoology, which moved up to eleventh among over one hundred journals in “Zoology,” and Osiris, which moved up to eighth among “History and Philosophy of Science/Social Science”
journals.
