THE National Health and Research Council has fired another bullet in the international boycott of academic publishing company Elsevier by announcing all council-funded research will have to be deposited in an open source repository within 12 months of publication.
Warwick Anderson, CEO of the NHMRC, made the announcement in the most unassuming of fashion – in a post in response to a comment piece on The Conversation website written ostensibly to correct a fact.
“The HNMRC has updated its policy on open access to published research, aligning us to with the practices of other international health and medical research funders such as the UN National Institutes of Health, the UK Medical Research Council and the Wellcome Trust,” Professor Anderson wrote, noting that the change would take place from July this year.

As usual, another great write up. Keep up the good work, we do all appreciate it even if we don’t always post comments to say so.
