Some staff and students received a strange overdue email on Friday/Saturday last week, for fines or overdue items accrued in 2008.
Please note that this is neither an email from a hacker, nor is it a valid statement of overdues/fines.
Last week the Library implemented changes to the Library Catalogue to allow renewals of overdue material, but have had some unexpected problems following on from that change, including overdue notices. Therefore we have had Library systems staff working on resolutions. They are using a test group of data, from last year, to run trials and inadvertently sent overdue email notices as part of that work on resolving our problem.
The Library apologises for wasting your time over this issue, and can reassure you that this is neither a hoax where your email details have been hacked into, nor are you likely to still have 2008 fines/overdues, unless you did not take steps in 2008 to resolve them. Please check your patron record for your current library status http://cat.lib.unimelb.edu.au/patroninfo
