Universities need to ensure students and research staff have access to the current state of the art Remote Sensing technology. Most commercial service providers either provide standard services that do not fit research/academic needs well, or they provide the needed data but at a price that does not fit research budgets. Universities struggle to share and maintain equipment, to maintain the variety of skills and expertise required for operating and maintaining sensors, and data processing workflows; and to keep up with regulations. Melbourne UAS Integration Platform (MUASIP) was launched in 2016 as a collaborative facility to address these challenges across The University of Melbourne. MUASIP works in collaboration with an industry partner (XM2) and is maintained by both central funding and contributions of researchers. It aims to sit between a commercial and research environment.
