Discussions over a new enterprise bargaining agreement (EBA) between the University and unions on campus started in earnest on Tuesday 26 August.
The University Bargaining Team, led by the University’s Head of Human Resources, Mr Nigel Waugh and the Union Bargaining Team, led by the University Branch President of the National Tertiary Education Industry Union, Mr Ted Clarke, have agreed to meet every fortnight to work out the details of a new Agreement.
The Agreement will replace the current EBA which nominally expired at the end of August this year.
Mr Waugh says staff need not be concerned that the old Agreement has expired as it will continue in effect until replaced by a new Agreement, adding that the University and, he believed, the unions, were serious about negotiating a new Agreement by the end of the year.
“While the University and the unions will inevitably disagree about some aspects of each other’s agenda, bargaining essentially comes down to trying to reach agreement on a deal that is acceptable to both parties.”
Information about the progress of negotiations, the schedule of bargaining meetings and answers to frequently asked questions can be found on the Enterprise Bargaining website at www.hr.unimelb.edu.au/advicesupport/eb.
