Universities are places of learning. The experience of acquiring new knowledge can be both exciting and challenging.
Christian faith and theology expect to learn from contemporary scholarship, science and art.
Tertiary students can benefit from the wealth of new biblical and theological learning. We make opportunities for that learning.
Learning the faith takes place in a variety of ways:
- discussion & Bible study groups;
- forums with scholars and theologians on current issues;
- theological courses in the United faculty of Theology and the Centre for Theology and Ministry (Morrison Close);
- visits to art exhibitions;
- groups organised by other chaplains – on Bible, philosophy, poverty.
Bible study takes place on Monday (Chaplains’ Rooms) and Thursday(John Medley West Tower room 412 – lunch time (1.05-1.55pm)
The Bible in Western culture:
We are planning to offer forums to assist students of literature and culture, which introduce biblical themes familiar to earlier writers.
Faith & science: Richard Dawkins’ challenge led to a forum, and a follow-up study will be planned.
Faith & art: Philip Potter Gallery permitted the viewing of art and discussion.
Discussion groups/forums: organised according to interest.
Inter-faith understanding is crucial in our time.
The presence of many international students in the university makes that understanding possible.
We are committed to strengthening these links.
