Smartphone and emotion

There is no solid approval for people became more emotional or more aggressive than ancient time. However, there is a group of scientist find out that depression, emotional stability and impulse control might be associated with problematic smartphone usage. People with less impulse control may also be more likely to have problematic cell phone use. Researchers admitted that to find out the temporality of the association requires further studies.

Smartphone and academic performance

There are two studies aim at university students and their behaviours on using smartphones. One study at 2014 suggested that social activities on social media might be associated with smartphone addiction. The other study at 2015  suggested that overuse of smartphone might be associated poorer academic performance. However, further studies are needed.

Smartphone and sleep quality in young people

Although it’s not a academic media, but it’s has show the worries from the society on the overuse issue of smartphone in young people. A study in Germany youth also show the lower sleep quality might be associated with overuse of smartphones.

So should we abandoned smartphone

It seems that only overuse or addicted to smartphone can potentially cause some issues. Technology always come with problems. That’s not the reason we stop using them. Identified the problem and find way to solve those issues is how the technology get improved. The study about the potential role of sleep apps is a good example. Except the efforts paid by researchers, remember the 20-20-20 rules when we use smartphone or computer maybe more efficient right now. Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and focus your eyes on something at least 20 feet away.
