Football /Soccer a game of science

Football or soccer as its worldly called is a game that interest most people.This game has evolve over time producing great players who made this game a delight to watch.Some of these legendary players are Pele,Zico and Cafu of Brazil,Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi and Alfredo Di Stafano of Argentina,Johan Cruyff of the Netherlands,Cristiano Ronaldo  of Portugal,Zinedine Zidane and Michel Platini of France and last but not least Paolo Maldini of Italy.

Considering the foot works of these great players you begin to ask whether this game is an art or a science or probably an inherent talent which is inherited via genes from one person to another.

History has it that football or soccer can be traced back ancient Greece,china and  Roman but it is accredited to england as the first to develop uniform rules and regulations for the sports.

To begin with, running, passing,kicking etc are the main actions of football. These actions of the game illustrates  many fundamental laws and studies in physics and mathematics.

Football necessitate newtons first law of motion  also referred to as  law of initia. This law states that “An object at rest remains at rest, or if in motion, remains in motion at a constant velocity unless acted on by a net external force.”

     This object in question is the ball.When a football match is about to commence with all players as well as match officials on the field of play,the ball is placed at the center of the field. The opposing sides of players waiting to pass the ball to start the match.

Newtons law makes us understand that this ball which happens to be at a static position in the center of the field will remain at rest unless however this external force which can be created by muscles in the body by using the leg and kicking the ball which happens to be at rest.

There is also Newtons second law which has its effect on football. This law also states that “Newton’s second law says that when a constant force acts on a massive body, it causes it to accelerate, i.e., to change its velocity, at a constant rate” This implies that the ball as the object of interest,if it happens to have more mass then more force is required from the player but if the ball has little mass then little force is required in order to score a goal.

   This law is important in the game of football because it determines when a goal can be scored or not based on whether the ball needs to move faster or slower.

 

Also in the area of mathematics the study of angles play a bigger role in this game.A player who needs to score a goal at the crucial moment of the game,must have in mind at which angle to kick the ball with the  football pitch as the base in order to score a goal.

 For example in the game of football the height of a goal post is 2.44 meters high.Assume a player standing 5 meters from the goal post needs to have in mind that in order to score a goal, the ball must be kicked at an angel less than 26 degrees.
