This page attempts to answer some common questions regarding UniMelb Web Search. If the information you want isn’t here, email us.
- Why have we got a new search engine?
The old (Ultraseek) search engine was overloaded and only offered limited customisation options. We believe the new search engine will be faster, provide better results, and more options to refine searches. - What has changed in the new search engine?
For the end user, we hope the only change will be that they find things faster. For site administrators, the new search engine offers a range of customisations that we will roll out during 2008. - When will the old search engine switch be turned off?
The old search engine will be switched off when we are satisfied that all dependencies have been considered and catered for. Even when the old search engine is turned off, queries will redirect to the new search engine. Impact should, therefore, be minimal, however if you have any concerns about something specific breaking, please contact us. - How can I restrict my search to a specific site? (Scoped Search)
You can simply type the domain as part of your search query in the following way:site:domain, so your search might look like this:site:lms.unimelb.edu.au password.
