1pm
Room 410, Level 4, 207 Bouverie Street, Carlton
Presented by Dr Melanie So Lin Cheng, Department of General Practice and Angela Clarke, CHS, University of Melbourne.
Brokerage is currently one of the many models being used to improve Aboriginal Australians’ access to medical services. In 2006 the Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health (OATSIH) launched the “Health Brokerage Services Initiative”.
In 2008 Melanie Cheng, a general practitioner with an interest in Aboriginal health, together with Angela Clarke from the Onemda VicHealth Koori Health Unit and Dr Phyllis Lau from the Department of General Practice, conducted a qualitative study to explore this concept of “brokerage” in Aboriginal health.
