12.30-1.30pm, Wed 14th September 2016
Seminar Room 515, Level 5, 207 Bouverie Street, Carlton
Dr Anna van der Gaag CBE, Visiting Professor of Ethics and Regulation, School of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Surrey, UK
Why, in an age of rapid technological advances in healthcare, are we seeing an unprecedented rise in complaints about health professionals? Is it because the public have unrealistic expectations? Does it arise from professional myopia? Or is the current system of healthcare simply unsustainable?
This lecture will explore these and other questions, drawing on research as well as wider theoretical perspectives. It will suggest that new conversations about the nature of professional practice in a digital age may well provide some answers.
