CHP Seminar 8-Sept-2017: Next steps for evaluating the economic impacts of physical activity and obesity

12.30-1.30pm, Fri 8th Sept 2017
Seminar Room 410, Level 4, 207 Bouverie Street, Carlton

Dr. Yoo is Associate Professor in Department of Public Health Sciences, School of Medicine, University of California (UC) Davis since 2011.

Obesity prevention has been a serious public health challenge in the past decades in both developing and developed countries. Although the increase in adult obesity in developed nations has slowed down since 2006, the obesity prevalence in the United States (US) has remained relatively higher than other developed countries.

A large number of demonstrations has been conducted to examine the effectiveness and the economic efficiency of lifestyle interventions (e.g., promoting physical activity and healthy diet) to prevent obesity as a risk factor for Type 2 diabetes. This presentation will report the literature gaps regarding the relevant topics and economic evaluation methods,
which were partly addressed by the recent reports by US federal agencies, i.e., the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
