CMH PhD Completion Seminar: 10th May 2018 – Pre-existing mental health disorders and health after release from prison: A case for continuity of care

Thursday May 10th 12.30pm-1.30pm
Seminar Room 410 – Level 4, 207 Bouverie Street, Carlton

Presenter: Jesse Young

As predicted by the World Health Organisation, prisons are increasingly becoming the 21st century asylums. However, outside drug-related harm and infectious disease epidemiology, remarkably little is known about health service use and broader health outcomes for people released from prison who experience mental health problems.

This seminar will present new evidence on patterns of health service use and health outcomes for people with mental health problems released from prison. The case for effective needs assessment, continuity of care, and the integration of service provision for this marginalised group will be discussed.
