Junior sport, sport for children under 18, is very popular in Australia, however there has been little research on the extent to which racism is experienced in junior sport, or how sports clubs manage it. Through an in-depth analysis of interviews with over one hundred players, parents, coaches and volunteers across nine junior sports clubs, Karen and her team argue that structural and cultural factors result in the maintenance of an on-field sporting culture where racism is essentially tolerated, even when there is general agreement it is inappropriate.
