Presentation from Global Indigenous Tuberculosis meeting (Nov 13th-14th, 2008)

Professor Ian Anderson was invited by the Assembly of First Nations to address an expert meeting on Global Indigenous Tuberculosis in Toronto, Canada which was held on 13-14 November 2008. He provided a presentation on the social determinants of health to Indigenous health leaders, political leaders, global Tuberculosis expert, and government officials, as well as participants from prominent non-governmental organizations.

The meeting was funded by Health Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada and the World Health Organization to consider the high burden of Tuberculosis in Indigenous populations across the globe. Participants had input into developing recommendations for a longer term strategy to address this issue of Tuberculosis. This will be presented to the 8th session of the UNPFII (United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues) in April 2009 and the World Health Organization STOP TB Partnership in March 2009.
