4.    Superannuation concessional caps

Staff should check their superannuation contributions are in line
with ATO caps or seek independent financial advice regarding this
matter at www.ato.gov.au. The concessional contribution caps for
2011/12 are $25,000 or $50,000 if aged 50 and over. Concessional
contributions are made up from pre-tax deductions and employer
contributions. Superannuation contributions (aggregate of all
superannuation funds that an individual has contributed to) made
within the above limits in the same financial year are taxed at a
concessional rate of 15 per cent. Contributions above these limits
will attract additional taxes which are advised by the ATO in the
following financial year. Consequently, these excess contributions
cannot be reversed by University’s HR office. Staff should review
their superannuation arrangements in line with the caps. Staff may
contact Unisuper: 1800 331 685 or www.unisuper.com.au. Staff who
want to make changes to their superannuation should contact the
Superannuation team on  hr-super at unimelb.edu.au. For more

3.    Superannuation concessional caps

Staff should check their superannuation contributions are in line
with ATO caps or seek independent financial advice regarding this
matter at www.ato.gov.au. The concessional contribution caps for
2011/12 are $25,000 or $50,000 if aged 50 and over. Concessional
contributions are made up from pre-tax deductions and employer
contributions. Superannuation contributions (aggregate of all
superannuation funds that an individual has contributed to) made
within the above limits in the same financial year are taxed at a
concessional rate of 15 per cent. Contributions above these limits
will attract additional taxes which are advised by the ATO in the
following financial year. Consequently, these excess contributions
cannot be reversed by University’s HR office. Staff should review
their superannuation arrangements in line with the caps. Staff may
contact Unisuper: 1800 331 685 or www.unisuper.com.au. Staff who
want to make changes to their superannuation should contact the
Superannuation team on  hr-super at unimelb.edu.au. For more information: http://www.unisuper.com.au/home. Enquiries: Damien
