UoM travel insurance and swine flu (H1N1)

The UoM insurance office has advised that travellers will not be eligible to claim cancellation expenses if they decide not to travel for fear of contracting the swine flu while travelling overseas.

Travellers will only be covered if DFAT issue a ‘do not travel’ warning to a destination after the trip has been paid for.

At this stage the DFAT website lists seven countries they advise against travelling to, mainly due to civil unrest and the ongoing threat of terrorism in those countries.

If a traveller requires medical assistance while travelling overseas for a suspected case of swine flu (or any other reason), medical expenses are still payable and all claims are assessed on their merits by the UoM travel insurance provider ACE.

Travellers looking for information on the swine flu can visit the World Health Organisation (WHO) website who issues regular updates including the confirmed cases of swine flu in countries throughout the world (including Australia).
