Presentation on Plurilingualism at 2023 Melbourne Graduate School of Education Research Conference

Arts West Building, The University of Melbourne, Parkville VIC 3052

At the MGSE (currently, Faculty of Education) research conference, “Education Research: Adapting to a Changing Landscape,” researchers from the ARTP Lab and staff from LALE, including Associate Professor Julie Choi, Dr. Rafaela Cleeve Gerkens, Ms. Melissa Slamet, and Dr. Tharanga Koralage, presented their research project titled “Exploring Educators’ Enactment of Plurilingualism in Language and Literacy Teacher Education.”

Led by Melissa Slamet, the presentation illustrated the rich ways in which four language and literacy teacher educators and support staff at an Australian university use their unique linguistic resources to teach and support graduate-level students from diverse backgrounds. By unpacking the narratives of each educator, the findings highlighted the importance of creating spaces that elicit and support the inclusion of educators’ plurilingual resources, fostering transformative and meaningful experiences for both teachers and learners.
