Presentation at ARLE IFTE Conference 2024
The ARTP Lab researchers, Associate Professor Julie Choi, Dr Rafaela Cleeve Gerkens, and Dr Shu Ohki presented their research project titled “Multilingual authors ‘standing taller’ in arts-rich translanguaging spaces” at ARLE IFTE Conference 2024 conducted within Faculty of Education, The University of Melbourne. Their inspiring presentation captures the attention of educators and researchers worldwide.
Their project explores the creation of translanguaging spaces through arts-rich bookmaking experiences, enabling Year 4 students from diverse linguistic backgrounds to see themselves as resourceful multilingual writers. The researchers emphasized the importance of integrating arts into language education to support the development of students’ multilingual identities and foster a sense of pride in their linguistic and cultural heritage. During their presentation, ARTP researchers highlighted the key findings and implications of their study, showcasing how arts experiences can lead language interactions and provide multimodal entry points for developing a multilingual writer identity.
