Grace’s Confirmation Seminar on Bilingual Education in Samoa

Room 219-221, 100 Leicester St, Carlton VIC 3053

Congratulations to Grace Manuleleua on her great success last week at the confirmation seminar. On a rainy and dreary Melbourne afternoon, Grace lit up the room with her beautiful Samoan dress and shared with us the incredible work she has been doing on her study over the last 8 months to pass this milestone.

Grace’s research project is based in the Small Island State of Samoa, focusing on primary school teachers and their perceptions and practices of bilingual education. Specifically, it investigates the ways in which the Samoan government bilingual education policies are enacted at the school levels. The findings of her research study will provide insight not only at government level, to policy curriculum planners of the effectiveness/ineffectiveness of Samoa’s bilingual education policy, but it will also help us understand and evaluate the challenges and constraints primary school teachers face in its implementation process at the classroom level.
