Kimchi’s book launch at ViệtSpeak’s Language in Community Festival
Thanks to all Unimelb past and present students and colleagues for joining us at the Language in Community Festival on 7 Dec 2024!

Thea (MTeach TESOL graduate and current EAL teacher) and artist Viet-My facilitated a brilliant arts-based Vietnamese language engagement workshop based on the picture book Crocodile và Unicorn Đi Chơi bringing families, children, and adults together to make a DIY crocodile and unicorn headgear.

Children made their individual headgears including a range of Vietnamese words presented to them in any combination of their choice. It was a fun way of engaging with art and language simultaneously. So many stories of language learning and multilingual family language practices were also shared amongst parents during the workshop.

Meanwhile, Julie also launched her book ‘Kimchi is for Everyone’ with Jodie Whitehurst which received rockstar(!) attention. Kimchi really is for everyone!!

Julie was hard at work signing books…

And everyone left with just a little more knowledge about kimchi to share with the world and some cool crocodile and unicorn headgears to wear throughout Christmas!
