Areas of Expertise in Teaching Practice:
- Learning Resources Development
- Learning Analytics
- Catering to Individual Student Needs
Educational Research Areas of Interest:
Collaborative / cooperative learning:
This context highly relevant to undergraduate students who find themselves in a group, be it in Zoom or a face-to-face class. Given the large variation in their success, I’m interested in developing active learning formats and resources for group work that promote engagement, thinking, comprehension, and collaborative skills.
Educational Technology:
Another broad area of interest is the use of technology as tools to facilitate learning. This ranges from online platforms for collaboration, virtual microscopy, to virtual reality environments for field or lab work.
Current Research:
Currently, Emile is co-developing an alternative group work format for workshops in 2022 based on team-based learning, active learning and small group instructional strategy. This workshop format will be designed so that students have the opportunity to apply conceptual knowledge through a sequence of activities that includes individual work, team work, and immediate feedback.
Educational Conferences:
- 2021: ACDS (Australian Council of Deans of Science)
- 2016: Online EduTECH 2016, Brisbane
