Too much information – truncating stories

When you view a listing of stories, the amount of text can be overwhelming. To make it easier on your visitors, truncate your stories by using the Read More tag. It’s that icon in your toolbar which looks like a rye bread sandwich – a two horizontal solid bars, separated by a dotted line in the middle.

Just put your cursor where you want to break your story, and click that icon to insert the More tag. That’s it.

Crafting your message

Some listing views expose the Excerpt text.

When you’re writing a post, the Excerpt field is just below the main content field. It’s a summary of your story. In some views this text will display instead of the story text. You don’t have to use it, but sometimes it’s easier to get a quick message across if you summarise.
