Funding: Australian Research Council DECRA 21; L’Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science Fellowship

Oyster reef living shorelines in the United States

Funding: Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)

Oyster reef modules designed in collaboration with teams at Reef Design Lab, University of Western Australia and Rutgers University (USA). The modules have been designed to attenuate over 70% of the incoming wave energy while providing beneficial substrate for oyster attachment and growth.

The Dell Eco Reef

Funding: Port Phillip Bay Fund, Victorian Government’s Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning

We installed 46 artificial modules off the coast of The Dell, Clifton Springs, which will be seeded with blue mussels and native oyster species, Ostrea angasi. We monitor biodiversity changes, and shellfish settlement and survival.
