Angasi oyster is the only native oyster found in Port Phillip Bay. However, the oyster reef formed by angasi oyster has become critically endangered with around 5% of its historical distribution remaining. Ecosystem co-benefits that are commonly associated with other species of oyster reef, such as water filtration and enhanced species diversity, are not well understood on angasi oyster reefs due to lack of literature. I am interested in bridging this existing knowledge gap and investigating whether the restored angasi oyster would result in these ecosystem co-benefits.

I work on seagrass because it’s an important coastal habitat that provides coastal protection. Seagrass is cool!
