Just Get It!

Forgot your USB and need some way to transfer your scans from our scanners?  Can’t edit your images because you don’t have Photoshop and can’t afford the monthly license fee?  Too often we see people with problems that they just shouldn’t (and don’t) have. This post looks at some of the free/affordable stuff that people want to use but don’t know that they can get it.

“Cloud” storage.

Too many postgrad students juggle multiple Dropbox accounts because they keep running out of “free” space. At best it requires remembering multiple usernames/passwords. At worst, they leave one of their accounts inactive for too long and lose their files. Why go through all of that hassle when there is 100GB of storage waiting for you to log in with your university credentials at cloudstor.aarnet.edu.au/.

Need to transfer large amounts of data to someone? https://cloudstor.aarnet.edu.au/sender/  The limit keeps changing every time I look at it but we’re talking TERABYTES!  From a computer on the university network the transfer speed can be faster than writing to a USB thumb drive.

Everything Autodesk

If you’re working with 3D scanned data, 3D design or CGI visualisation then have a look at what you can use for FREE from Autodesk while you’re a student (or staff member). It’s dead easy to register.

Continuing on with 3D CGI visualisation, you can take advantage of Planetside’s education license program to use a high powered CGI visualisation system for still images, video and 360° content for free!.
