Fresher flu and other delights

(written on Friday, forgot to actually post this!) –>

I was shocked and horrified to hear the sound of my own voice this morning: extremely low, man-like, with the most unattractive cough interrupting all my conversations. Despite my solid 10 hours of sleep last night, I am thoroughly exhausted and feel like I could sleep for days. Oh yes, I think I just might have the fresher cold. Lovely.

In other news, I had quite the interesting first week of uni. My subjects all seem pretty great so far. It feels like whoever came up with the lit and performance syllabus clearly had me in mind, I’m loving everything about it so far. Creative writing is slightly less within my comfort zone. The pressure to write a poem within the next week is quite an uncomfortable feeling. Here’s hoping (when I eventually attempt it) magic will flow from my fingertips and onto my microsoft word document, creating the ultimate, H1 honours masterpiece.

Intro to Media and Comm was unfortunately my least favourite thus far (unfortunate since Media and Comm is the degree i’m doing) but I’m sure it was just that one lecture that was a bit of a turn off. We analysed a news article in the lecture, which just felt a bit too much like a year 12 english class for me. Overall though, the subject itself sounds like it will get pretty interesting.

Finally, intro to political ideas was pretty damn cool. It was just plain interesting, but intense, covering the political ideologies of confucius, plato, aristotle and about 5 other philosopher-type people within the one lecture. All in all, I’m excited to really get into these subjects next week.

College-wise, life has been extremely hectic. I’ve been out, a lot, and have neglected doing normal, healthy things like exercise and actually starting some uni work. Will make a start on sunday. Anyways, many more adventures are ahead in the next week so stay tuned! Will also be posting my poem for creative writing up here (just kidding).

  1. I must agree that Into to Media and Comm was a touch boring and very year twelvish. I finally got hold of the reading for this week on the LMS because the link didn’t work – I zoned out after the first page and hence, after getting caffeine, ended up here. Ah well, back to it I suppose. Then again, my novel is awfully lonely…

  2. To Laura: i have my media and com tute in about an hour and am so struggling to choose between doing the reading or finishing watching talladega nights! probably the latter.

MMarsh: Same for me! Babel building 9 am lit and performance tute. Wbu?
