"Have you ever been alone in a crowded room?" (Pris)

Here’s a thought: have you ever felt sorry for the lecturers?

I mean, we keep hearing that they don’t care about you as much as your high school teachers do but think about it, they talk in big echoey rooms to a bunch of people (probably only half of the people who are meant to be there actually are) who are either sleeping or trying not to. And then, to top it all off, they can never make that thought provoking conclusion or summary hit home because everyone begins packing up five minutes early! …or maybe I’m just over analysing this. But if all this is true, then I feel sorry for the lecturers. And yes, having said that I already feel like a douche.

Anyways, on a brighter note, I really like my tutes now. I’m just more comfortable in numbers that I can count on my fingers (don’t judge me, I’m an Arts student!). We’re beginning to recognise each other and find subjects in common and talk about random stuff. And the best part? I don’t know half the people’s names so I make up little nicknames – like the guy who suffers from the most stereotypical case of midlife crisis in my linguistics tute (I call him “Charlie” from “Two And A Half Men”) and this guy who looks just like Marshall from “How I Met Your Mother” in my PPE tute…even if I ever learn your actual names, I’m sorry, you’re never going to be known as anything else in my mind!

And I really want to meet you fellow bloggers in person! Seeing as we’re all really indecisive, I’m going to throw an idea for a meeting place and time out there and we can modify it according to our timetables (non-arts kids, I’m thinking you’re going to just have to tell us when you’re free!). So, I’m thinking next Tuesday during lunch hour at Kere Kere (it’s near the John Medley buildings – turn left before the stairs leading to the South Lawn)? Tell me what you think!

Ps. Jack\’s Mannequin – Dark Blue – it’s how I feel in lectures compared to the cosiness of tutes!ย And yes, I do love JM – especially when he plays live.

  1. I still haven’t found Kere Kere, but I guess I don’t go in that direction much! Tuesday is good for me, as far as I know!

I love making up names for randoms >:D
I kinda hope I never become friends with some of them cause lots are a little mean. But I guess that’s how I roll.

  2. tuesday lunch time is when college enslaves me and i wash dishes for hundreds of people. true.
can i be reeaaaally awkward and ask if any other day is as good? say, wednesday?

  3. Wed’s good for me too!
@Rinaldho, gooood question! I didn’t even think about that one… we could awkwardly approach people hanging around and do the whole trial and error thing! :S

  4. I have classess all wed…and they’re tutes so I can’t even skip em! *sobs*. Oh, well…

If you guys meet, then maybe I can crash the party when (if?) you meet for a second time.

  5. Yeah maybe we should just have a meet every lunch so that even if you can’t do one or two days you’ll still get the chance to meet everyone…

  6. Well, I can do any of these days at around lunch time… Why don’t we jsut say that we will meet up twice this week:

The first session could be at 1pm on Tuesday (which just so happens to be my birthday, not that I’m trying to attract more attention to myself, since I am awesomely modest) and the other could be at 1pm on wednesday… This way I think we can accomodate everyone… and depending how it goes, we could think of weekly/fortnightly meetings like this…

Also, maybe we should just all come wearing hats… any hat, the more creative the better…

    What do you guys think?

  7. I think, rinaldho, that tuesday calls for cake!! … And I agree with all your other ideas. See you guys tues in a hat! ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. So…Tuesday and/or Wednesday at 1pm at kere kere in a hat? Have I got it right?

    Only problem…I don’t own a hat…

  9. Sorry for the double comment, but on another note, is anyone else struggling with the first Lit and Performance essay? It’s essentially what I did all year in Lit last year, but for some reason I’m finding it really hard!

  10. Are you doing the Othello, or R&J? The Oth. passage is so much more interesting, I think. Hard to keep it to 800 words!

  11. Yeah, I’m doing Othello. It is a great passage, so I don’t know why I’m having trouble with it! I love writing essays and usually I’m pretty good at it, so…yeah…I can’t know.

  12. Are you having the same problem as me, and freaking out about dear-god-it’s-my-first-ever-uni-essay-and-must-therefore-be-amazing-or-my-tutor-will-laugh-at-me-raucously

*gasps for breath*. Yeah. Not so fun. Still… only a few hundred little words to go! Best of luck ๐Ÿ˜€

  13. Yep, Cara, that’s about it. Except I still have 800 of those little words left to go.

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
