Introduction to Text Encoding Initiative

Overview: The Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) is a standard for the representation of manuscripts and textual material in digital form. In this workshop Nick Thieberger, Birgit Lang and Brigid Grigg, with the collaboration of Daniel Russo-Batterham, Robert Turnbull and Edoardo Tescari from the Melbourne Data Analytics Platform (MDAP), will show some examples of the use of TEI in current research projects. We will cover capturing text from images, basic encoding, and point to sources of information on XML and the Text Encoding Initiative. We will present the current collaboration between the Faculty of Arts and MDAP, walk through the stages of the work and discuss the pros and cons of using TEI as a way of presenting page images and textual versions together for citation purposes.

When: Friday 16 July, 2–3:30pm
