The main areas of engagement with industry of the HyperSens Laboratory

•  Research contracts and advisory activities in the context of imaging spectroscopy, multispectral scanning, processing and calibration of remote sensing cameras using laboratory instrumentation
• Software designed for processing and image calibration can be adapted to the needs by industrial partners, particularly for RGB, CIR, multispectral and hyperspectral imaging sensors
• Advisory activities in the context of remote sensing for precision agriculture, both from manned and unmanned vehicles and platforms
• Research and service contracts in topics related to water and nutrient stress detection, large-scale imaging of farms and forestry areas, and monitoring activities using innovative cameras
• Image acquisition and algorithm development for plant breeding, plant trait retrievals and high-throughput data collection using high-resolution imaging spectroscopy and thermal cameras

Students from Agriculture, Forestry and Engineering backgrounds with interests in image processing, instrumentation, drones, airborne remote sensing, and physical and statistical methods are encouraged.

• We are proud to announce that Professor Pablo Zarco-Tejada has been named on the annual Highly Cited Researches 2019 list from Clarivate.

• An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) was used in a project coordinated by HyperSens Lab – University of Melbourne to complete flights carrying hyperspectral and thermal cameras at Mount Langi Ghiran Vineyard on 22 Feb 2019. This campaign was designed to capture very high-resolution hyperspectral and thermal images to monitor vine traits and to determine stress at canopy level. The drone was operated by an expert team from XM2-Industrial. With a fast processing chain method used in this project, the images were processed in less than 24 hours, and the stressed plants were detected on the same day of the flights. This campaign verified the platform’s capability and performance with great success.
