Pre-AATE/ALEA conference event (July 3rd): Registrations now open

English Teacher Education in the Neoliberal Age

We invite you to join us for a day of provocation, collaboration, networking, and mutual support. This one-day event offers an opportunity to discuss issues related to English teacher education, connect with peers, and explore possible solutions to common challenges. Invited provocateurs will provide the catalysts for this discussion.

In today’s rapidly evolving educational landscape, English teacher educators face unprecedented challenges. Neoliberalism’s emphasis on free markets, standardisation, accountability and human capital development encroaches on our expertise daily. Government-mandated core content, university-imposed ways of teaching, the digitisation of practice, and school-student expectations coalesce to increase the pressure to prepare future teachers for an increasingly complex world. And yet, despite the obstacles, there is always hope.
