Open Day 2025: A Celebration of Languages, Literacies, and the Education Community
What a fantastic Open Day this year!
The energy was electric, and it was great fun meeting so many new people—some just beginning to explore their options, others already passionate about languages and literacies education—as well as current and past students who also came along! It’s always great seeing alumni! (And shout out to former student, Risa Goto, and her new textbook Peko Peko with Kelly Harrison and Tina Hutchings—congratulations!).

A highlight was the workshop by the team from the Arts-Rich Translanguaging Pedagogy Lab, which brought together creativity, collaboration, and curiosity through multilingual storytelling and hands-on activities that showcased the power of translanguaging in practice. It was great fun for visitors of all ages.
Open Day is a chance to reflect on our commitment to inclusive, research-led teaching in our languages and literacies education programs at Melbourne, and our part in a wider education community committed to supporting culturally and linguistically diverse learners at every stage of their life-long, life-wide language learning journey.
Thanks to everyone who helped make the day such a success—we’re already looking forward to next year! And special thanks to our Graduate Researchers, Student Ambassadors, and volunteers who helped make the workshop and whole day so engaging and accessible.
