Teaching Modules

Educational Goals

One of the outcomes of this research project was a set of teaching modules which we are making available here for use by other educators.

The target student group is late-primary school aged students who have been learning the target language for three or four years prior to the start of the modules. These example lesson plans are for a matched set of English and Mandarin students, but the techniques are easily applicable to other languages.

The purpose of these teaching modules is to engage the students from both groups in pro-actively seeking language knowledge from each other, and spontaneously exploring language and cultural areas of mutual interest. In order to achieve this we first involve the students in a matching task which seeks to pair them with other students of similar interests and personalities. Then using a variety of tasks we encourage them to interact and explore learning together.
