MODULE 6

 

DESCRIPTION: This module is designed to link directly to both schools’ language curricula and to provide an opportunity for the participants to practise what they have learned from their language class. Teachers will need to ensure participants have adequate vocabulary and language skills required for this module.  This Module contains three tasks for each school; for the Australia participants, they need to find out the daily routines form their partners, record the information chronologically in writing and orally present their findings in the class.  For the China participants, they need to find out the family members of their partners, as well as how many and what rooms their partners have in their house and record this information orally.

 

DURATION: 10 days (任务期限: 10 天)

 

AUSTRALIA PARTICIPANTS:

Welcome back to the new tasks! Let’s put your new Mandarin skills to use! Please find out what a typical school day is for your partner in China. For this task, please map out what your partner does from when the time they get up in the morning to the time they go to bed on a typical school day (daily routines). Please make sure you ask questions in MANDARIN only. Also, please don’t forget to reply to your partner’s questions in ENGLISH only.

 

OUTCOME: When you have gathered all this information, please compile a timetable in Mandarin and record an audio report to upload it on Edmodo.

 

DUE DATE: You need to complete this task by DD/MM! Have fun!

 

CHINA PARTICIPANTS:

TEACHER’S NOTE

-Unlike previous modules, this module is designed to link both schools’ language curricula in the hope to increase the motivation, especially for the China participants, to want to practise on Edmodo.  This module contains tasks that focus on the language skills students have just acquired in their language classes and to provide a platform for them to practise these skills.  The tasks in this module were designed so that the participants can work through the tasks alongside their learning in their language classes.

 

-In this module, participants are to use the target language to ask each other questions, but they must use their first language to respond to their partner’s questions.

 

-We found the China participants move through their English curriculum at a very fast pace despite the fact they received the same amount of instruction as the Australia participants. The Chinese school’s English curriculum only allows them two weeks to work through a new Unit whereas we spent at least 3 to 4 weeks for our participants to complete one unit.  This discrepancy in curriculum pace created a problem for us in carrying out the tasks in this module when the Australian participants found it difficult to complete the tasks due to lack of necessary language skills.

 

-The duration of this module was originally set for 5 days, but was extended to 10 days due to the lag in communication and different curricular pace between the groups as mentioned above. The duration has been set to 10 days here to allow sufficient time for completing the tasks.
