What Next?

After “Meet Your Peers”

“What Next?” is the second event the committee organized in 2022. As the name indicated, this event focused on career development as an engineering manager, after graduating from the Master of Engineering Management.

For more event details, please refer to the previous post.

Let’s hear from the project chairpersons!

“I am profoundly sharing that all of our team members did an excellent job. I’m glad I decided to work in the MEM community. Not only I learned so many things from our colleagues but also made great friendships.
There are tons of leadership skills (just name a few as follows) I have achieved from being a part of this committee and from my excellent colleagues:

  • Identifying the steps to ask for help and to offer the same.
  • Being supportive and encouraging.
  • Praising fellow colleagues for good work.
  • Giving credit to others.
  • Showing empathy for people with difficult tasks.
  • Communicating effectively and working to improve team morale in difficult times.

“I would encourage our upcoming Eng. Management students to join our team and strive for the best to take our MEM community onto the next level of engagement and leadership.
Thanks, to dear engineering management community.”

Chairperson of “What Next?” event
Rahima Khatun (2022 Sem 1 Committee)

“It was an excellent opportunity to practice the skill set learned in classes.
During the event planning and implementation, I improved my problem-solving, decision-making, negotiation and networking skills while getting to know each member of our team. Also, thanks to being guided by an enthusiastic but patient mentor, we were able to learn from our mistakes, which allowed us to bring a better event. This community is just getting started. Therefore, we look forward to bringing you more exciting events soon!”

Chairperson of “What Next?” event
Miguel Briones (2022 Sem 1 Committee)

“As an international student that plans to continue my professional career in Melbourne, the “What Next” panel discussion provided me with some good insights on what to expect and how to prepare for my career after graduation. Most of the panelists are engineering management alumni that came from various countries outside Australia and then built their professional careers in Melbourne. This, not only motivated me but also made me realize that master of engineering management graduates from the University of Melbourne is highly valued in many areas of professional industries. I thank all the committee members who arranged this insightful event and hope the MEM student community to do the “What Next” discussion every semester.”
