Meet Your Peers S2 2022

Following the successful outcome in the previous semester, MEM Student Community held its second “Meet Your Peers” event on September 29th, 2022 in C-428, Infrastructure Building Level 4. MEM students were welcomed to enjoy a pizza party while connecting with fellow MEM cohort, participate in a fun trivia quiz, and discuss their aspirations for future MEM Student Community events. Some of the recent graduates were also able to attend the gathering to share their past experiences while learning in the MEM program.

This event was attended by 21 graduate students and 2 staffs.

Being part of the organising committee of the first event has been a great challenge and has allowed me to interact more with my peers. Being able to interact with my peers from different careers and different nationalities has been a fantastic experience. The whole process from the discussion of ideas for the event to the execution of the project has been very satisfying. It has allowed me to have the experience of organising a Master’s event in a prestigious University, and where the spoken language is not my mother tongue.

Willian Toledo (student commencing S2 2022, chairperson of Meet Your Peers event)

The Meet Your Peers event was organised for MEM students to catch up during their mid-semester break. One of the challenges was how to overcome sticking to the budget when unexpected cost were discovered. The lessons learnt was to not assume all costs were covered, get a more detailed plan of the day, research even the smallest details, and add about 20% to each estimate of the cost instead of putting the exact cost.

Karen Dang (student commencing S2 2022, chairperson of Meet Your Peers event)

It was very eventful. I had the chance to meet and talk to some new faces over some foods and drinks. It was a great way to socialize especially since the event was held during the break. I also got the chance to talk to the course coordinator, Felix, which was a great chance. Overall the event was a positive one.
