Port Melbourne Boat Tour
Located at the core of Melbourne’s thriving logistics network, Port Melbourne strategically operates as a hub for supply chain activities, capitalizing on its waterfront accessibility to seamlessly facilitate the movement of goods between land and sea.
Students were able to cruise through Port Melbourne to gain insights into the supply chain from knowledgeable guides and enjoy stunning views.
Event Recap: On Tuesday, 28th Nov 2023, from 9:45 AM to 12:00 PM AEDT, our student committee collaborated with Port of Melbourne, who hosted an enriching experience at Docklands. The 90-minute tour featured expert commentary and provided close-up views of key terminals, including Appleton Dock, Victoria Dock, Swanson Dock (swing basin only due to wharf works), Webb Dock East, and West.
This unique opportunity allowed participants to gain firsthand insights into the inner workings of one of the southern hemisphere’s busiest and most significant ports. We are thrilled with the success of this event and the valuable connections it forged between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications.
Inspiration from Supply Chain Management (MGMT90026): For those of you who had the Supply Chain Management (MGMT90026) course in the first semester of 2023, you might recall a similar industry tour. This event was inspired by the success of that initiative and aimed to further complement your understanding of supply chain dynamics in a practical context.
Next Industry Tour Opportunity: If you missed this exclusive Port of Melbourne tour, don’t worry! Their next industry tour is scheduled for February/March. Individuals who couldn’t make it to this event are encouraged to participate in the upcoming time, allowing you to continue building valuable connections between your studies and the real-world application of engineering management concepts, especially on the supply chain management side.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Port of Melbourne for their collaboration, and we appreciate everyone who participated in making this event a success.
