MEM to Electrical Engineer
Karan Sharma is a graduate electrical engineer in a multinational infrastructure consulting firm, having the opportunity to obtain this role upon the completion of his Master of Engineering Management in 2021. Combined with his undergraduate education in Electrical Engineering, Karan is able to maximize the knowledge and experience obtained from the MEM program to excel at his work.
We are humbled to have Karan share his story in how he overcame challenges during his study and how the MEM Student Community can be a platform to prepare students for life after graduation.
“I was fortunate enough to gain a graduate level position as an Electrical Engineer at AECOM upon completion of my Master of Engineering Management in 2021. The knowledge and skills obtained from studying this course have directly translated into the work I do on a day-to-day basis, from looking though contract documentation, and various procurement strategies to having a wholistic understanding of the project lifecycle.”
“One of the challenges I faced during the course was the impact COVID-19 and numerous lockdowns in Victoria had on my student life. It took a little while to get accustomed to online learning, and while this delivery method certainly has its advantages, I was not able to connect with my peers to the extent I would have otherwise enjoyed. I think the creation of the MEM Student Community will greatly improve this aspect of student life. The networking events are a great way for current and prospective students to establish a rapport with their fellow students and teaching staff and can help create a bond that will assist them in sharpening their skills in engineering management in preparation for life after uni.”
