Industry Visit #1: Schiavello

MEM Student Community is humbled to have the opportunity of visiting and learning more about Schiavello during our first “Industry Visit” event on November 17th, 2022. MEM students took public transportation from campus to visit Schiavello’s factory in Tullamarine and we were welcomed by the company’s representatives: Neb Milasinovic (Group HR Advisor) and John Romano (National Key Accounts Manager). Neb and John led MEM students on the factory tour, explained the manufacturing processes, and answered various questions from students about Schiavello. It was a great experience to connect our learning from classroom and the implementation in a real-life working environment.

This event was attended by 14 graduate students and 1 staff.

Being involved in the first ever MEM Industry Visit Series has allowed me to learn how to properly communicate and collaborate with real industry professionals. I am really proud to organize this event because this event provided new insights about the real professional working environment to the MEM students and it also allows them to experience a different way of learning rather than just watching presentations in class or online lectures

Syauqi Amani (student commencing S1 2022, chairperson of Industry Visit event)

The Industry Visit event was organized for MEM students to introduce students into a real work environment. Concepts as Just in Time and Quality Control are Schiavello’s day to day, in this situation MEM students were able to relate the recently acquired knowledge, with situations that were happening in the factory. We thank Schiavello for such an insightful experience!

Fabricio Sarmiento (student commencing S2 2022, chairperson of Industry Visit event)

Neb, John, and Schiavello teams were very welcoming and answered all of our questions thoroughly. The factory tour helped us to understand the end-to-end process of converting raw materials into various finished products — all executed in one site. Hopefully we can also see the office area on our next visit!
