MEM Career Day 2022

Session 2: Journey Towards Entrepreneurship
Guest Speaker: Juan Cardona (Managing Director of ARAL Group Pty Ltd)
Session 3: Group Mentoring
Mentors: Ali Saeed (Procurement Consultant at Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions), Karan Sharma (Graduate Electrical Engineer at AECOM), and Leon Holewa (Project Manager at Yarra Valley Water)
Session 4: Mock Interview
Interviewers: Hamid Shahrokh (Engineer at Hinds Blunden Melbourne), Mo Oyoun Alsoud (Senior Project Officer at Victorian School Building Authority)
This event was attended by 15 graduate students and 2 staffs.
Organising the first MEM Career Day allowed me to get a hands-on experience and put my knowledge in project management into practice: coordinating with fellow MEM Student Committee members, brainstorming the event concept, maintaining communication with guest speakers, alumni, and MEM students. The sessions also helped me to personally prepare my future career and life after graduation.
Puti Audia Fatima (student commencing S2 2022, chairperson of MEM Career Day 2022)
Being one of the chairpersons of the first ever MEM Career Day event allowed me to improve my communication and leadership skills as well as expand my network to teachers and alumni. In this opportunity, I was also able to develop my teamwork capabilities through brainstorming event ideas and allocating tasks to other MEM committee members. I am also delighted to see that all attendees enjoyed networking with alumni and tried to get the best out of every session we have provided.
Syauqi Amani (student commencing S1 2022, chairperson of MEM Career Day 2022)
MEM Career Day was an excellent opportunity to get feedback and advice on career options, pathways, as well as feedback on resumé and interviews. It gave me a few perspectives on pathways I can take based on my prior experiences which I did not consider. Unlike the general career sessions targeted for all students, this session was tailored to those with an engineering background. The various guests understand us and our resumé so they can answer questions more specifically about job experiences and career ideas, things that the general career advisors would not be equipped to do. Overall, the event was holistic because it has talks, Q&A sessions (“group mentoring”), and a mock interview session. The best part is that something like this is free to all MEM students.
