Woollahra Municipal Council v Minister for Local Government

The High Court will hear an appeal against a decision of the NSW Court of Appeal on proposed amalgamations of Sydney local councils. The NSWCA held that a proposal to amalgamate three councils complied with a statutory requirement that an independent examination and public consultation take place prior to the amalgamation, despite the examiner’s reliance on a non-public report delivered by a consulting firm.
