Visualise Your Thesis is back!

Visualise Your Thesis (VYT) is an exciting competition for universities worldwide that challenges graduate researchers (currently-enrolled PhD, MPhil, and Professional Doctorate (Research) candidates), to present their research projects in a 60-second, eye-catching, audio-visual digital display. It takes the amazing research of the world’s brightest and best graduate researchers and catapults it into the digital age.

2019 will be a big year for VYT. In this year’s inaugural Visualise Your Thesis International Competition, which will be held online, the winning entries from local competitions will face off for a chance to take home AUD$5,000 (1st prize), $2,000 AUD (2nd prize) or $1,000 AUD (3rd prize). The 2019 competition follows on from a very successful Australian national showcase in 2018. This competition – presented by The University of Melbourne – ran at twelve Australian universities (with two international ‘guest’ universities), with their winners’ works featured in this online showcase.

Using a pre-supplied template, entrants are tasked with developing a “visual elevator pitch” that encapsulates their work as a compact digital narrative. Entries are judged on their visual impact and on how clearly the content presents the research. The digital format allows for a variety of levels of creativity, interactivity and interpretation, and is suitable for all disciplines and technical proficiencies.

Institutions are invited to participate by running a local Visualise Your Thesis competition at their campus using the University of Melbourne’s road-tested format, which includes guidelines and a competition kit. Registration is open, so sign up your institution today!

The University of Melbourne local heat of the Visualise Your Thesis competition will launch on 1 July 2019. See last year’s site to view past entries and be inspired by their research stories.

If you are a graduate research student currently enrolled at The University of Melbourne, keep an eye on the UoM VYT site for more information about registration coming soon and subscribe to this blog for more updates!
