Reference Management Library Support

If you are looking for resources or need to brush up on your skills in reference management, Recite is the place to go for assistance with managing your citations and references.

The University of Melbourne Library supports the use of the EndNote and Zotero reference management programs. To learn more about which may be right for you, visit Options and Preferences for Managing References on the Recite website, and then attend the upcoming Reference Management webinars for University of Melbourne staff and students:

Zotero for Beginners (Two sessions available)

This online session will introduce you to the basics of using the Zotero reference management program.

There will be time during the webinar for questions and answers.

By the end of the webinar you will be able to:

  • Recognize the capabilities and limitations of reference management software
  • Download the program, connectors and plugins
  • Navigate important features of the Zotero interface
  • Add references to your Zotero library using a range of techniques
  • Sync an online account with your desktop
  • Use Zotero to insert citations and format a bibliography in Word and Google Docs using your preferred referencing style

Endnote for Beginners

This online session will introduce you to the basics of using the EndNote reference management program.

By the end of the webinar you will be able to:

  • Recognize the capabilities and limitations of reference management software
  • Navigate important features of the EndNote interface
  • Create an Endnote library and add references using a range of techniques
  • Use EndNote to insert citations and format a bibliography in Word using your preferred referencing style

This session is for established EndNote users who are wanting to explore further features.

This online session is designed for users who are familiar with the basics of adding references and working with Word, who are wanting to use further features to support information management, research projects and writing long documents.

By the end of the webinar you will be able to:

  • import existing folders of PDFs
  • merge multiple chapters in Word
  • sync with EndNote Online
  • share your EndNote library
  • edit citation styles

Zotero for Researchers

This session is for established Zotero users who are wanting to explore further features.

This online session is designed for users who are familiar with the basics of adding references and working with Word, who are wanting to use further features to support information management, research projects and writing long documents.

  • use document annotation tools
  • Set up RSS feeds from databases to stay current in your field
  • make the most of tags
  • create and follow groups
  • sync across devices and tablets
  • understand the storage options
